Cleburne, TX - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions clashed against the Southwestern Christian University (SCU) Eagles in a riveting doubleheader showdown at The Depot in Cleburne Station. The day saw a mix of joy and challenge for the Lions as they battled through the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchups.
Game 1
In the opener, the Lions asserted their dominance with a resounding 3-0 triumph over Southwestern Christian. Nick Mosley showcased his prowess at the plate, delivering a crucial 1 for 3 performance, securing 2 RBIs. Alejandro Garcia and Wesley Flatt contributed solid hits, with Flatt also exhibiting speed on the basepaths, scoring a run and swiping a base. Pitcher Ethan Nors stole the spotlight with a masterful complete game shutout, surrendering only 2 hits while striking out 3 batters, and issuing no walks.
Game 2
The second bout presented a tougher challenge for the Lions as they succumbed to a 6-3 defeat against Southwestern Christian. Despite the setback, standout performances emerged, notably from Avery Chatman, Xavien Thompson, Andrew Ortiz, and Dominick Padilla, who showcased their hitting prowess with triples and runs scored. However, pitching struggles plagued the Lions, with Matthew Hickey enduring a tough outing and Hayden Mullins facing challenges on the mound.
