SAGU Lions Drop Doubleheader to No. 22 MACU In A Tough Battle in Oklahoma City

April 5, 2024

Oklahoma City, OK - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions clashed with the No. 22 Mid-America Christian University (MACU) in a thrilling doubleheader to commence their Sooner Athletic Conference showdown. Despite their efforts, the Lions faced tough competition and succumbed to MACU in both games.

Game 1
In the opening showdown, the Lions fought fiercely but ultimately suffered a 10-6 defeat against MACU. Andrew Ortiz showcased his prowess at the plate, going 1 for 4, notching a run, and stealing a base. Meanwhile, Josh Linter and Wesley Flatt unleashed their power with impressive home runs, combining for six RBIs. On the mound, Ethan Nors battled through four innings, allowing five earned runs and striking out four batters. Despite the solid relief efforts from Hayden Mullins and Reagan Smith, the Lions couldn't stave off MACU's relentless offense.

Game 2
The second bout proved to be another nail-biter as the Lions fell short in a hard-fought 3-1 contest against MACU. Avery Chatman, Andrew Ortiz, Josh Pinter, and Timothy Compomizzi showcased their hitting prowess, each securing a hit in the game. Wesley Flatt continued his impressive performance, scoring a run while Neco Lopez displayed resilience on the mound, limiting MACU to just two earned runs over a complete game effort.

Looking Ahead
The Lions remain determined as they gear up to conclude the series against MACU on April 6 (Sat) in Oklahoma City.
