Oklahoma City – In an electrifying doubleheader showdown, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions ventured to Ann Lacy Stadium in Oklahoma City to face off against formidable opponents in the first round of the 2024 Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
Game 1: SAGU vs. OCU
Despite their valiant efforts, the Lady Lions faced a tough challenge against the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars, ultimately falling 12-0 in the opening game of the tournament. Sasha Jennings and Kaeli Lynn showcased their offensive prowess with hits in their plate appearances. On the mound, Valerie Guzman battled through a challenging first inning, conceding 9 earned runs on 6 hits. Macie Blizzard provided solid relief, holding off the Stars for 3.2 innings without allowing any earned runs.

Game 2: SAGU vs. Wayland
Undeterred by the earlier setback, the Lady Lions fought fiercely in their second matchup against Wayland, but fell short in a hard-fought 6-4 loss. Sasha Jennings led the offensive charge, going 3 for 4 and contributing both a run and an RBI to the scoreboard. Cadence Hopgood, McKenzie Schulze, Makinzy Kneip, and Kaeli Lynn also made notable contributions at the plate, showcasing their skill and determination. Despite a strong effort on defense, Annie Charanza endured a tough outing, surrendering 4 earned runs on 5 hits in 1.1 innings. Valerie Guzman and Macie Blizzard provided solid relief pitching, but the Lady Lions couldn't overcome the deficit.
