Lady Lions Dominate Day Two of the Texas Two Step Tournament with Sweep Over Ave Maria

Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions Volleyball team kicked off day two of the Texas Two Step Tournament with a commanding and exhilarating performance, sweeping Ave Maria University in straight sets at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas.

The Lady Lions (5-3, 0-0) showcased their prowess on the court, dismantling the visiting Ave Maria Gyrenes (0-7, 0-0) with a potent combination of sharp serves, solid blocking, and relentless attacks. The opening set set the tone for the match, as the Lady Lions fended off Ave Maria's early efforts, claiming the set 25-22. With momentum firmly on their side, the Lady Lions exploded in the second set, overwhelming the Gyrenes 25-7, showcasing a blend of precision and power that left Ave Maria struggling to find an answer.

The third set was a closer affair, with Ave Maria rallying to make it competitive, but the Lady Lions' tenacity shone through as they closed out the match with a 25-17 victory, securing a 3-0 sweep.
 

Lady Lions Review
Nelson's offensive power was led by Alexandra Bonnett, who delivered an impressive nine kills. Lilly Hanna and Mackenzie Smith followed closely with six kills each, demonstrating a balanced attack that kept the Gyrenes on their heels. The Lady Lions' service game was on full display, tallying 11 aces, with Lindi Boling and Tessa Glick each contributing three aces, while Samantha Moore added two more to the tally. Defensively, the Lady Lions were anchored by Tessa Glick, who recorded 13 digs, with Cassidy Hargesheimer contributing six digs to stifle Ave Maria's offense.

Hanna Lilly was a wall at the net, leading the team with three blocks, complemented by Bonnett's three blocks and Moore's two, reflecting the Lady Lions' dominance at the net.

The team's victory was a true collective effort, highlighted by Taylor Cavazos' 13 assists and Hargesheimer's 13 assists, orchestrating a smooth and varied offense that kept Ave Maria off balance throughout the match.

The Lady Lions are set to close out their participation in the Texas Two Step Tournament later today, facing off against the College of Idaho at 4:30 PM in the Sheaffer Center. With the momentum of this sweeping victory, the Lady Lions are poised for another thrilling contest as they look to further solidify their standing in this early season test.
