Lions Roar Back Home with a Dominant SAC Victory over Oklahoma City

January 16, 2024

Waxahachie, TX – The RV Nelson University Lions men's basketball team returned to the Sheaffer Center with a vengeance Thursday evening, delivering a resounding 85-61 victory over Oklahoma City University in Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play. Fueled by a raucous home crowd of fans, the Lions showcased their depth, precision, and determination.

From the start, Nelson asserted their dominance. By halftime, the Lions led 44-25, thanks to an efficient offensive attack spearheaded by Micah Clark. Clark dazzled with his versatility, scoring 14 points and grabbing four rebounds while providing high-energy plays that set the tone for the night.

The Lions' bench played a pivotal role, contributing 43 points, led by Noah Jonker's standout performance. Jonker was lights out, shooting 7-for-8 from the field, including four three-pointers, to finish with 18 points. His hot hand kept the Lions ahead as they fended off any potential OCU surges in the second half.

CJ Hall orchestrated the offense with finesse, notching a team-high 19 points and six assists while directing traffic on both ends of the floor. Justin Collins added a balanced effort with five points, seven rebounds, and an impressive nine assists, demonstrating the Lions' unselfish ball movement.

Defensively, the Lions were relentless, forcing 19 turnovers and turning them into 20 points. Their ability to limit Oklahoma City to 37.9% shooting from the field, while holding their opponents to just three made three-pointers, highlighted their defensive discipline.

The win improved Nelson's record to 13-5 overall and 11-3 in SAC play, solidifying their position as a force within the conference.
