Waxahachie, TX — The Nelson University Lady Lions volleyball team continued their red-hot conference run with a pair of road wins this weekend, defeating the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) and Mid-America Christian University (MACU) to extend their Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) record to 12–1 on the season.
Game 1: Nelson 3, USAO 1
Chickasha, OK — Drover Fieldhouse
Nelson opened the weekend with a gritty four-set victory over USAO, winning 22–25, 25–21, 25–21, and 25–17. After dropping the first frame, the Lady Lions flipped the momentum with a well-balanced attack led by Addison Standley, who delivered 12 kills, five aces, and 17 total points to spark the comeback.
Ava Milkovisch stayed hot with 11 kills on a .391 hitting percentage, while Mackenzie Smith added eight kills and a team-high four blocks. Setter Taylor Cavazos orchestrated the offense with 24 assists, and Cassidy Hargesheimer contributed 15 more, keeping Nelson's rhythm sharp through long rallies. Defensively, Chloe Muñoz anchored the back row with 13 digs and several critical serves that swung momentum in Nelson's favor.
The Lady Lions' depth proved too much for the Drovers, as multiple players stepped up in key moments to help Nelson seal its 11th SAC victory of the season.
Game 2: Nelson 3, MACU 0
Oklahoma City, OK — Gaulke Activity Center
Nelson kept the momentum rolling with a straight-set sweep over MACU (26–24, 26–24, 25–22), highlighted by a dominant team performance on both sides of the net.
Mackenzie Smith led the offensive charge with 11 kills on an impressive .393 hitting clip, while Alexandra Bonnett added nine kills and Addison Standley tallied six with two service aces. Setter Taylor Cavazos turned in another strong showing with 16 assists and 14 digs, and Cassidy Hargesheimer added 20 assists to keep the offense balanced.
Nelson's defense was equally sharp as Chloe Muñoz recorded 16 digs, Bonnett added nine, and Hope Jones and Olivia Todd combined for six blocks to stifle the Evangels' attack.
The sweep capped off a flawless weekend that showcased Nelson's depth and collective energy. With the pair of wins, the Lady Lions improve to 14–8 overall (12–1 SAC) and continue to climb the conference standings.
Next Up: Nelson stays on the road for another SAC matchup, traveling to College of the Ozarks (Mo.) on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6:00 PM in Point Lookout, MO.
