Lady Lions Battle on Senior Night but Fall 2–0 to Science & Arts

October 28, 2025

Waxahachie, TX — The Nelson University Lady Lions closed out their home slate on Tuesday evening at the Lions Athletic Complex, honoring their seniors in an emotional Sooner Athletic Conference showdown against the University of Science and Arts (Okla.). Despite a hard-fought effort, the Lady Lions fell 2–0 to the Drovers on Senior Night.

The pregame ceremony celebrated Nelson's senior class for their leadership, perseverance, and impact on the program and the team carried that emotion straight into the opening whistle. The Lady Lions came out aggressive, creating early chances from Stephanie Hernandez, who led the attack with three shots and two on goal, while Damaris Solis and Daisy Altamirano kept the Science & Arts defense under pressure.

Goalkeeper Delaney Murphy anchored the backline with three key saves in the first half, including a diving stop that fired up the crowd. However, USAO found the back of the net in the 29th minute on a strike from Dagbjört Guðmundsdóttir, giving the visitors a 1–0 halftime lead

Nelson continued to push in the second frame, drawing three corner kicks and creating multiple dangerous looks in the attacking third. Yet, the Drovers extended their lead in the 69th minute as Guðmundsdóttir netted her second of the night. The Lady Lions kept their energy high until the final horn, showcasing the grit and family atmosphere that has defined their season.

Nelson outshot 7–10 and earned a 3–2 advantage in corners, reflecting their balanced play on both ends. Murphy's steady goalkeeping and the defensive efforts of Mia Sevilla and Azucena Garcia anchored a resilient back line that held firm against a potent USAO offense.
