Waxahachie, TX — The Nelson University Lions kept the energy high in the Sheaffer Center on Friday night, powering past Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) with a 94–63 victory in front of a lively home crowd. The win capped an exciting day of action in the Nelson University Basketball Classic and pushed the Lions to 2–0 on the young season.
The matchup opened with SUNO star forward Jamal Gibson who entered averaging 23 points and 19 rebounds posing a major inside threat. But Nelson's collective defense rose to the challenge, limiting his rhythm while forcing turnovers that turned into transition points. SUNO kept pace early, trailing 45–38 at the half, before the Lions' speed and depth took over in the second frame.
Micah Clark put on a show under the Friday night lights, erupting for 30 points on 14-of-21 shooting, including highlight dunks that ignited the Sheaffer Center. His relentless pace in transition and defensive energy set the tone from start to finish.
Trelin Green was the floor general the Lions needed, controlling tempo and dishing out a team-high 9 assists while adding 11 points of his own. The bench came alive once again scoring a staggering 66 points, with Latrel Davis (10 pts) and Ozavian Buford (6 pts, 2 clutch threes) leading the charge.
Nelson's defense held SUNO to just 32% shooting in the second half, outscoring the Knights 49–25 after the break.
