Waxahachie, TX | Nov. 1, 2025 — The Nelson University Lady Lions put on a show inside the Sheaffer Center on Saturday afternoon, storming past Our Lady of the Lake University, 84–57, to cap off the second day of the Nelson University Basketball Classic.
After a fast-paced opening frame that saw both teams trade early blows, Nelson settled in behind sharp execution and balanced scoring. Kate Miller anchored the interior with a dominant double-double, pouring in 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Ashley Gonzalez followed closely with 13 points, hitting a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, while Lauryn Scalice provided a spark off the bench with another 13 points, including three triples of her own.
By halftime, Nelson had built a 37–33 lead, but it was the third quarter that broke the game wide open. The Lady Lions erupted for 29 points in the period, shooting a blistering 66% from the floor. Abby Boyce and Paris Miller combined for 20 points, while Cailyn Tucker orchestrated the offense beautifully with five assists and two steals.
Nelson's defense clamped down in the fourth, holding the Saints to just seven points and forcing a flurry of turnovers that led to fast-break opportunities. The Lady Lions out-rebounded OLLU 39–25 and dominated the paint with 42 points inside, showcasing their depth and discipline across all four quarters.
The Lady Lions improve to 2–0 on the young season, displaying early-season chemistry and confidence as they continue their home stretch of the Classic.
