Lady Lions Sweep Central Christian to Cap Road Trip on a High Note

McPherson, Kansas | Nov. 1, 2025 — The Nelson University Lady Lions wrapped up their regular-season road slate in commanding fashion, sweeping Central Christian College (Kan.) 3–0 inside Jerry E. Alexander Arena. With set scores of 25–17, 25–16, and 25–22, Nelson improved to 20–9 overall and 18–2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, closing in on postseason form with a balanced and energetic performance.

From the opening serve, Nelson established dominance at the net and behind the service line. Outside hitter Addison Standley led the charge with 12 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while Mackenzie Smith added nine kills and four blocks to keep the Lady Lions in control. Alexandra Bonnett chipped in seven kills and a strong defensive presence, while setter Cassidy Hargesheimer orchestrated the offense with 15 assists and a pair of aces.

Defensively, libero Maci Sons anchored the back row with 14 digs, showing her trademark court coverage and steady leadership. Taylor Cavazos turned in another all-around effort, dishing out 13 assists and contributing five digs and two aces. The Lady Lions hit .252 as a team, holding Central Christian to just .099 hitting for the match.

After taking the first two sets convincingly, Nelson held off a late surge from Central Christian in the third, sealing the sweep with timely kills and composed play in crunch time. The victory showcased Nelson's depth and focus as they head into the final stretch of SAC competition.

Next Up
The Lady Lions return home to Waxahachie for their regular-season finale against Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Friday, November 7 at 6:00 PM inside the Sheaffer Center. With the postseason looming, Nelson looks to keep the momentum rolling and finish the season the same way they've played it.
