Waxahachie, Texas | November 24, 2025 — Rivalry nights demand poise, pace, and players willing to seize the moment. On Monday evening inside a buzzing Sheaffer Center, the Nelson University Lady Lions delivered all three dropping 81 points, unleashing a third-quarter avalanche, and earning a convincing 81–66 victory over crosstown foe Texas Wesleyan University.
Lady Lions. Lady Rams. Fireworks.
And at the center of the spark: Ashley Gonzalez, who was so scorching hot she might've needed oven mitts.
The sophomore sharpshooter authored one of the most electric shooting displays of the season 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting, including a blistering 8-for-13 from deep. When Nelson needed someone to steady the offense and ignite momentum, Gonzalez turned the hardwood into her personal three-point runway.
But she didn't work alone.
Kate Miller controlled the glass and painted area with force and finish, posting 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Paris Miller continued her do-everything season with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and a series of hustle plays that swung energy back to the Lady Lions whenever needed.
Lauryn Scalice added 12 big points off the bench, including a pair of timely threes that pushed Nelson's lead to double digits in the second half.
After entering halftime up just 32–27, Nelson broke the game wide open in the third quarter. The Lady Lions outscored Texas Wesleyan 30–19 in the frame, fueled by rapid-fire ball movement, paint touches, and transition threes that sent the home crowd roaring. The defensive activity matched the offensive rhythm—forcing turnovers, flying to rebounds, and limiting TWU to just 34.9% shooting on the night.
Texas Wesleyan's Kameryn Phillips (23 points) battled to keep the Lady Rams within reach, but Nelson's depth, tempo, and shot-making proved too much to overcome.
With the win, Nelson moves to 6–1 (2–1 SAC) and continues to build confidence as conference play heats up.
