Oklahoma City, OK | The Nelson University Lady Lions capped their Oklahoma City weekend with a statement win, cruising past Cottey College 86–53 on Saturday afternoon at the Gaulke Activity Center. With the victory, Nelson improved to 4–0 on the young season, showcasing depth, poise, and precision on both ends of the floor.
From the opening tip, the Lady Lions controlled the tempo and never looked back. Nelson jumped out to a 21–10 first-quarter lead behind balanced scoring and stingy defense. The second quarter was even more dominant, a 24-point frame that saw Ashley Gonzalez catch fire from the perimeter, drilling three triples en route to a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double performance.
Cailyn Tucker added 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while Paris Miller and Bailee Dorris both delivered energy and interior presence with 11 points apiece. Dorris' efficiency hitting 3-of-5 from the field and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the stripe helped Nelson extend the lead to 45–23 by halftime.
The Lady Lions' bench was a major factor once again. Lauryn Scalice chipped in seven points, including a key three-pointer that stretched the margin midway through the third, while Abby Boyce anchored the paint with 12 points and nine rebounds.Â
Nelson's defense held Cottey to just 32.8% shooting overall and forced 17 turnovers, converting those into fast-break points and transition opportunities.
