Waxahachie, TX | December 11, 2025 — The No. 18 Nelson University Lions men's basketball team put on a high-octane offensive display Thursday night in the Sheaffer Center, powering past Southwestern Christian University 96–80 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Fueled by a season-high performance from Trelin Green and a blistering first half, Nelson controlled the nightcap from start to finish.
After a brief early push from the Eagles, the Lions flipped the switch. Nelson ripped off a decisive run midway through the opening half, turning defensive stops into transition finishes and open threes. Green was relentless attacking the rim, living at the free-throw line and setting the tone with poise and pressure. By the break, the Lions had built a commanding 50–27 halftime advantage, shooting over 51 percent from the field and a perfect 12-for-12 at the stripe.
Southwestern Christian showed fight coming out of the locker room, trimming the margin with improved shooting and physical play in the second half. But every push was met with an answer. Green buried timely jumpers and free throws, Ozavian Buford slashed his way to key buckets, and Micah Clark provided highlight finishes at the rim to keep the Eagles at arm's length.
Green finished with a season-high 25 points, adding eight assists and constant downhill pressure that bent the defense all night. Buford chipped in 14 points, Jesse Iweze added 13 with his trademark toughness on both ends, and Nelson showcased its depth with 31 bench points as the Lions maintained control late.
Defensively, Nelson forced 19 turnovers and converted them into 22 points, while also winning the paint battle and dictating tempo for most of the evening. The Lions shot nearly 48 percent from the floor and knocked down 11 triples, balancing efficiency with aggression.
With the win, Nelson improved to 9–2 overall and 5–1 in SAC play, continuing to stack quality conference performances as the season gains momentum.
