Oklahoma City, Oklahoma | December 13, 2025 — The Nelson University Lady Lions delivered a poised, punchy road performance Saturday afternoon, outlasting Oklahoma City University 90–84 in a hard-fought Sooner Athletic Conference battle. Behind timely shooting, balanced scoring, and a fourth-quarter surge, Nelson secured another statement win away from Waxahachie.
The opening quarter set the tone for a back-and-forth afternoon. Neither team blinked early as the Lady Lions traded punches with OCU, matching intensity possession for possession. Nelson's defense held firm while the offense found rhythm in spurts, and the first ten minutes closed deadlocked at 16–16
Momentum swung in the second quarter behind a spark off the bench. Lauryn Scalice ignited the Lady Lions with confident shot-making, drilling multiple threes and attacking gaps in transition. Nelson stretched the floor, won the free-throw battle, and took a narrow 37–35 advantage into halftime after weathering several OCU runs
The third quarter became the turning point. Nelson's offense caught fire, knocking down seven three-pointers in the period and shooting over 50 percent from the floor. Ashley Gonzalez and Kate Miller hit timely perimeter shots, while Cailyn Tucker controlled the paint and pace. Despite Oklahoma City's persistence, the Lady Lions closed the quarter with a 62–58 edge and clear momentum on their side
When the game demanded poise, Nelson delivered composure. The Lady Lions opened the fourth quarter with sharp ball movement and confident execution, pushing the lead into double digits. Scalice continued her torrid afternoon, finishing with a game-high 20 points, six rebounds, and five three-pointers, repeatedly silencing OCU runs. Nelson shot over 56 percent in the final frame and calmly closed the door at the free-throw line to seal the 90–84 road victory
Nelson showcased balance throughout the lineup. Gonzalez and Tucker each added 14 points, Miller chipped in 12, and the bench provided a massive lift with 42 points, underscoring the Lady Lions' depth and unselfish play. Defensively, Nelson forced key turnovers late and made winning plays when it mattered most
With the win, the Lady Lions continue to stack confidence and cohesion as the calendar turns toward the holiday break.
