Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lions took the field Saturday afternoon at the Lions Athletic Complex, facing off against Park University in an intense non-conference doubleheader. With momentum on their side, the Lions fought hard in both games, delivering a performance full of grit, determination, and electrifying moments.
Game 1
The opener was a tightly contested showdown that saw Nelson jump ahead early, thanks to a two-run homer from Jaxon Bates in the second inning. Will Flatt added an RBI in the fifth, but Park clawed back, capitalizing on a costly error in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.
Despite solid pitching from Javier Balderas (4.2 IP, 2 ER, 2 K) and Landon Mogford, the Lions couldn't hold off a late surge. A two-run home run in the eighth inning proved to be the difference, sealing a 5-3 loss for Nelson despite matching Park with eight hits on the day.
Game 2
If Game 1 was a battle, Game 2 was an all-out slugfest. Nelson's bats came alive, exploding for a seven-run third inning that saw key contributions from Dominick Padilla (2B, 4 RBI), Eli Lyons (2 H, 2 RBI), and Nick Mosley (1 H, 3 BB, RBI).
The game saw five lead changes, with Nelson leading 8-3 before Park answered with a six-run fifth inning to retake control. The Lions fought back with runs in the sixth and seventh, setting up a dramatic finish. Down 13-12 in the bottom of the seventh, Nelson had the tying run on third, but Park's closer shut the door, handing the Lions a heartbreaking one-run loss.
