Lions Silence Patriots in 10-0 Rout Behind Pitching Gem and Explosive Offense

March 25, 2025

WAXAHACHIE, TX — A return to home turf proved to be just what the Nelson University Lions needed.

Dominating both sides of the ball, the Lions roared to a 10-0 shutout victory over Arlington Baptist University in Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader opener at the Lions Athletic Complex. With crisp execution, timely hitting, and lights-out pitching, Nelson improved to 19-14 on the season.

The heartbeat of the Lions' surge came from third baseman Josh Pinter. With the game still close in the third inning, Pinter delivered a two-run single that broke things wide open, pushing Nelson ahead 4-0. He finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk, igniting the offense when it mattered most.

Shawn Robertson dazzled on the mound in his first start of the season, going 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out one. He kept the Arlington bats quiet, earning his first collegiate win. The bullpen duo of Dylan Zajicek and Jake McMahan sealed the deal, combining to allow just two hits over 2.2 innings and locking in the Lions' third shutout of the season.

Key Moments & Contributions

Eli Lyons led the offensive charge with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, driving in three runs, including an RBI double in the third inning that made it 5-0.

Xavier Thompson scored three times, collected a hit, and added a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Dominick Padilla contributed in all phases—drawing two walks, swiping a base, roping an RBI double, and scoring three runs.

Defensively, Nelson turned three double plays and committed just one error—a testament to their crisp fielding throughout the afternoon.
