Waxahachie, TX – On a meaningful Senior Day at the Lions Athletic Complex, the Nelson University baseball team honored its graduating class with heart in the series finale against Mid-America Christian. Despite a 6-2 setback, the Lions showed flashes of grit and promise behind strong offensive swings and passionate play.
The Lions tallied nine hits on the day, with
Andrew Ortiz continuing his hot streak at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Nelson got on the board in the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Xavien Thompson, followed by another RBI sac fly from
Jaxson Bates in the sixth to make it a 3-2 game.
Nick Mosley delivered a 3-for-4 performance in his final regular-season home appearance, keeping rallies alive and flashing his speed on the basepaths.
On the mound, Nelson used a full bullpen effort with nine pitchers combining to scatter eight hits and rack up 12 groundouts. However, a three-run seventh inning by MACU created separation the Lions couldn't close.
Nelson moves to 23-20 on the season, with sights now set on finishing strong in the final conference stretch.
