Waxahachie, TX – The No. 21 Nelson University Lady Lions were back on their home floor Saturday for Day 2 of the Texas Two Step Tournament inside the Sheaffer Center, facing off with Kansas Wesleyan University in the morning and Evangel University (Mo.) in the afternoon. Both matches pushed the Lady Lions to the edge, featuring long rallies, emotional swings, and a roaring crowd.
Game One – Kansas Wesleyan 3, Nelson 1
Nelson opened Saturday with a gritty clash against Kansas Wesleyan University. The Lady Lions went blow-for-blow early, dropping a narrow first set 24–26 before storming back to even the match with a 26–24 win in set two. The third and fourth frames turned into nail-biters, each decided by just a handful of points, but the Coyotes closed strong to take the match 3–1 (24–26, 26–24, 26–28, 19–25).
Game Two – Evangel (Mo.) 3, Nelson 2
The nightcap brought high drama, as Nelson clashed with Evangel University (Mo.) in a five-set thriller. The Lady Lions fell in the opener but roared back with back-to-back set wins, including a dominating 25–21 third set that had the Sheaffer Center rocking. Evangel answered with a late push, edging Nelson 25–21 in set four and holding off a furious rally in the decisive fifth, 15–11.

Bonnett was once again unstoppable, recording a team-high 18 kills and adding 10 digs for her second double-double of the day.

Smith (10 kills) and Caroline Boone (9 kills, 9.5 points) chipped in, while Samantha Moore tallied 7 kills.

Taylor Cavazos and Hargesheimer combined for 40+ assists, while libero Taylor Felux anchored the defense with 19 digs.
In total, the match featured 36 tie scores and 16 lead changes, a true back-and-forth showcase that kept the crowd on edge until the final point.

The Lady Lions now turn their attention to Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play, opening on the road against Oklahoma City University on Friday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 PM in Oklahoma City, OK.
