Late Rally Comes Up Short in Oklahoma City

Box Score

Oklahoma City, Okla. | January 15, 2026 — The Nelson University Lady Lions put together a gritty, fourth-quarter push on Thursday night but ultimately fell just short in a 60–58 Sooner Athletic Conference battle against Mid-America Christian University inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

MACU jumped out quickly, opening the game with a strong first quarter to take a 24–10 advantage. Nelson responded with poise in the second period, tightening defensively and finding better rhythm offensively to trim the deficit to 34–22 at the halftime break. The Lady Lions continued to chip away in the third, turning stops into transition opportunities and closing the gap to four entering the final frame.

The fourth quarter belonged to Nelson. The Lady Lions held MACU to just seven points over the final ten minutes, forcing tough shots and winning the hustle plays. Nelson poured in 19 points of their own in the quarter and had the ball with a chance to take the lead late, but the comeback stalled in the final moments.

Kate Miller led the Lady Lions with a strong all-around performance, scoring 15 points while adding four assists and five rebounds. Paris Miller delivered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, knocking down four shots from beyond the arc and anchoring Nelson on the glass. Lauryn Scalice chipped in seven points, while the Lady Lions collectively won the battle in fast-break points and second-chance opportunities.

Nelson finished with 42 rebounds, 18 assists, and held a decisive edge in the fourth-quarter shooting percentage, showcasing the team's resilience and growth in conference play despite the narrow loss.
