Waxahachie, TX | January 17, 2026 — In a back-and-forth Sooner Athletic Conference battle that came down to the final possessions, the Nelson University Lady Lions defended their home floor with a dramatic 92–91 victory over the University of Science and Arts on Saturday afternoon inside the Sheaffer Center.
The Lady Lions set the tone early, jumping out to a 26–22 first-quarter edge behind sharp ball movement and confident perimeter shooting. Science and Arts answered in the second, tightening the game at halftime, but Nelson refused to blink.
Coming out of the break, the Lady Lions delivered their most decisive stretch of the afternoon. Nelson poured in 31 third-quarter points, shooting efficiently and stretching the defense with deep-range accuracy to seize momentum. The surge proved vital as the visitors mounted a late rally in the fourth, trimming the margin to a single possession in the final seconds.
Nelson's offense was powered by a trio of standout performances. Lauryn Scalice caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down eight three-pointers on her way to a game-high 31 points, repeatedly answering every Science and Arts push. Paris Miller added a strong all-around effort with 19 points, while Ashley Gonzalez delivered a critical scoring punch off the wing, finishing with 18 points and five made threes.
The Lady Lions finished the afternoon shooting 50.7% from the field and an impressive 48.6% from three-point range, a decisive edge in a game that featured 17 made triples by Nelson. Despite a late surge from Science and Arts, Nelson's composure and timely shot-making sealed the one-point conference win in front of the home crowd.
