Waxahachie, TX | January 31, 2026 — The Nelson University Lady Lions delivered a complete performance Saturday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center, rolling past Wayland Baptist University 83–53 in Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) action in front of an energetic home crowd.
From the opening tip, Nelson set the tone with pace, precision, and defensive pressure. Senior guard Paris Miller, who entered the day ranked among the top five scorers in the SAC, put on a scoring clinic in the first half. Miller poured in 21 points before halftime, knocking down five three-pointers while also pulling down seven rebounds, as the Lady Lions surged to a commanding 45–26 halftime lead.
Nelson's offense was sharp early, shooting over 56 percent from the floor in the first quarter and burying five triples to quickly seize momentum. The Lady Lions paired that efficiency with disciplined defense, limiting Wayland Baptist to just 26 points over the first two quarters and forcing difficult looks throughout the half.
The Lions showed no signs of slowing down after the break. Nelson outscored the Flying Queens 23–11 in the third quarter, stretching the margin to nearly 40 points behind continued perimeter shooting and relentless work on the glass. Miller continued her hot shooting, finishing the afternoon with 37 points, 16 rebounds, and seven three-pointers, capping one of the most dominant individual performances of the season.
Balanced contributions followed Miller's lead, as Nelson showcased its depth and ball movement. The Lady Lions finished with 22 assists, won the rebounding battle 46–22, and forced Wayland Baptist into tough possessions all afternoon, building a lead that grew as large as 42 points in the fourth quarter.
With the win, Nelson improves to 16–3 overall and 12–3 in SAC play, continuing its push near the top of the conference standings.
