Waxahachie, TX | February 13, 2026 – The Nelson University Lady Lions returned to the Lions Athletic Complex for the first home action of the 2026 season and made it loud early. Riding the momentum of last weekend's shutout and lessons learned from a gritty split, Nelson delivered a commanding doubleheader sweep over Wiley University on Friday afternoon, outscoring the Wildcats 19–0 across two games.
With crisp defense, explosive offense, and lockdown pitching, the Lady Lions set the tone for what they hope will be a statement season at home.
Game 1: Nelson 11, Wiley 0
Nelson wasted no time igniting the home crowd.
The Lady Lions plated two runs in the first and two more in the second before erupting for a seven-run fourth inning to seal the 11-0 run-rule victory. According to the official box score (Game 1), Nelson tallied 11 runs on 11 hits while holding Wiley to just two hits and three errors.
Elena Mendez was electric in the circle, earning the win with four shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. M. Blizzard slammed the door in the fifth, striking out the side to secure the shutout.
Offensively, the Lions were relentless:
-
Layla Oliver set the spark, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a stolen base.

K'Leigh Williams tripled and scored, continuing to apply pressure on the basepaths.
The defining moment came in that seven-run fourth. Nelson stacked hit after hit, triples, doubles, aggressive baserunning, and capitalized on Wiley miscues blowing the game wide open and showcasing their offensive depth from top to bottom.
Game 2: Nelson 8, Wiley 0
If Game 1 was about explosive bursts, Game 2 was about complete control.
Nelson blanked Wiley again, this time behind a dominant pitching performance from Valerie Guzman, who threw five no-hit innings while striking out nine. The official Game 2 stats show Wiley managed just one hit in the entire contest and struck out 11 times as a team.
