Langston, OK | February 21, 2026 – The stage was set for a heavyweight collision. The No. 6 Nelson University Lions walked into Langston Saturday afternoon as the Sooner Athletic Conference's No. 1 offense, undefeated on the road and carrying the confidence of champions. Waiting on them? The No. 8 Langston Lions, owners of the league's No. 1 defense and unbeaten on their home floor.
An unstoppable force. An immovable object. Something had to give.
After 40 minutes of body blows, defensive stands, and championship poise, it was Nelson who stood tall, grinding out a 66–58 slugfest to capture the top seed in the SAC and close regular-season conference play in emphatic fashion.
The tension was palpable from the opening tip inside C.F. Gayles Field House. Neither team blinked. Nelson and Langston battled to a 29–29 deadlock at halftime in a game that featured nine ties and 11 lead changes. Every possession felt like March. Every rebound was contested like it was the last one of the season. Langston tried to turn it into a defensive wrestling match. Nelson answered with discipline.
In a game billed as offense versus defense, it was Nelson's grit that ultimately made the difference. The Lions held Langston to just 37.0 percent shooting from the floor and an icy 26.3 percent from beyond the arc. Nelson's defensive pressure forced 16 turnovers, converting them into 19 points, a critical swing in a game where every bucket mattered. The battle in the paint was even at 24–24, but Nelson's ability to win the possession game proved decisive. The Lions outrebounded Langston 38–28, including seven offensive boards that extended key second-half possessions.
When the game tightened in the final minutes, Nelson didn't flinch. After the halftime stalemate, Nelson's offense found timely rhythm. The Lions shot 52.6 percent in the second half and went 14-of-19 from the free-throw line on the night converting when it mattered most. Micah Clark once again led the charge with 28 points, attacking gaps, stretching the floor, and embracing the moment.
Langston made one final push, trimming the deficit late, but Nelson's composure sealed it. The Lions knocked down clutch free throws and secured key defensive stops in the final two minutes to quiet the home crowd and hand Langston its first home loss of the season.
Nelson entered undefeated on the road.

By the final horn, the road warriors were still perfect away from Waxahachie. With the 66–58 victory, the No. 6 Lions claim the top seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament and cement their status as one of the nation's most complete teams.
