Bethany, Okla. | February 7, 2026 — In a game that came down to composure, shot-making, and one final defensive stand, the Nelson University Lady Lions dug deep on the road and escaped Bethany with a gritty 74–73 Sooner Athletic Conference victory over Southwestern Christian on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions weathered an early punch, trailing 18–12 after the first quarter, before flipping the momentum with a blistering second period. Nelson poured in 29 points in the second, shooting with confidence and purpose to seize a 41–33 halftime lead. The surge was fueled by crisp ball movement and timely perimeter shooting as the Lady Lions found rhythm on the offensive end.
Nelson stayed aggressive coming out of the locker room, extending the cushion in the third quarter behind balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure. Heading into the fourth with a 60–47 advantage, the Lady Lions appeared to be in control but Southwestern Christian had one last run left.
The Eagles stormed back in the final ten minutes, erupting for 26 fourth-quarter points and turning the contest into a possession-by-possession battle. With the margin shrinking late, Nelson leaned on poise at the free-throw line and trusted execution to withstand the late push and close out the one-point win.
Four Lady Lions finished in double figures, led by Kate Miller, who knocked down 13 points with a pair of triples, while Paris Miller added 12 points and five rebounds. Ashley Gonzalez was electric from deep, drilling three three-pointers on her way to 11 points and the game winning one legged three point runner, and Nelson's bench provided a critical spark, accounting for 20 points in the narrow victory. Nelson also finished with 18 assists, highlighting the unselfish play that carried them through the toughest moments.
