Lady Lions Split Day Two Thriller, Walk It Off and Battle to the Final Out

Waxahachie, TX | April 8, 2026 — The Nelson University Lady Lions came out swinging on day two of their SAC series against Langston, delivering a response with timely hitting, and late-inning drama to split the doubleheader at the Lions Athletic Complex.

After two tight losses the day before, Nelson flipped the script in game one before battling to the final pitch in game two.

Game 3 – Nelson 3, Langston 2
The Lady Lions wasted no time setting the tone.

After Langston struck first, Nelson answered immediately with a three-run first inning that changed the momentum of the day. Parker Kittrell delivered the biggest swing with a clutch two-RBI triple, followed by an RBI knock from Avery Coleman to give Nelson a 3-1 edge early.

From there, it became a battle in the circle and Elena Mendez was more than ready. The pitcher was dominant, going six strong innings while striking out six and limiting Langston to just five hits.

Langston pushed one across late, but Macie Blizzard shut the door in the seventh to secure the 3-2 win and give the Lady Lions their first victory of the series.

Game 4 – Langston 3, Nelson 2
Game two brought more fireworks just not the early kind Nelson wanted.

Langston jumped out fast with a three-run first inning powered by a pair of home runs, putting the Lady Lions in an early hole.

But Nelson didn't fold.

Behind a steady performance from Valerie Guzman in the circle, the Lady Lions kept the game within reach and chipped away late. In the seventh, Nelson made its move as Lacie Miller delivered an RBI double and Trista Ford followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one.

With the tying run on base and momentum building, the rally came just short, as Langston escaped with a 3-2 win in a game that went down to the final out.

The Lady Lions return home Friday, April 10 for another SAC doubleheader against the University of Science and Arts (Okla.).
