May 6, 2026 | Waxahachie, Texas — The roar has officially reached the national stage. For the first time in program history, Nelson University Baseball has earned a berth into the NAIA National Tournament, capping off a historic season that saw the Lions shatter expectations, rewrite records, and establish a new standard for the program.
The Lions enter the national postseason with a
35-18 overall record, turning one of the most memorable campaigns in school history into a breakthrough moment for Nelson Athletics.
Now, the next chapter awaits.
Nelson will travel as the No. 4 seed to face ST. Ambrose at Bellevue Nebraska in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament, with official bracket details set to be announced during the NAIA Selection Show.
This season was never just about wins.
It was about building something bigger.
From opening weekend to postseason play, the Lions played with toughness, swagger, and relentless belief. Nelson emerged as one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the conference, finishing the season with:
- 442 hits
- 381 runs scored
- 99 doubles
- 40 home runs
- 93 stolen bases
The lineup consistently applied pressure from top to bottom, blending power with aggressive base running and timely hitting.
Nelson battled through one of the toughest schedules in the conference, picked up marquee wins against nationally recognized opponents, and proved throughout the SAC Tournament that the program belonged on the big stage.
Pitchers like
Ryan Avalos and
Reagan Smith delivered critical innings throughout the season, while the bullpen continued to answer pressure moments deep into postseason play.
The Lions showed resilience repeatedly during the SAC Championship Tournament, battling through elimination games and refusing to back down against some of the conference's top teams.
That fight ultimately helped secure the at-large opportunity that now sends Nelson into the national tournament field for the first time ever.
This season was about more than making history.
It was about changing expectations.
And now, with the postseason still alive, the opportunity in front of them is even bigger.
The ticket has been punched.
The roar is growing louder.
And Nelson Baseball is heading to the NAIA National Tournament.
