Lady Lions Sweep Day 2 Doubleheader of the Texas Two Step in Exciting Fashion

Waxahachie, TX - The Nelson University Lady Lion's showed out on the final day of the Texas Two Step. Nelson won their first match against Evangel University in dominating fashion and then returned to the court against Our Lady of the Lake University and pulled out an exciting 5 set victory. With the day 2 sweep, the Lady Lion's finish the Texas Two Step going 3-1. 

Game One

The Lady Lions opened Saturday's action with a comeback victory over Evangel. After narrowly dropping the opening set, Nelson responded with three consecutive set victories to take control of the match.

Nelson's offense was led by Sawyer Pontin, who recorded 14 kills. Caroline Boone was also a big contributor, as she totaled 12 kills as well. Once again, Cassidy Hargesheimer was a wizard with the ball, recording 26 assists in the match while Ashlyn Cavazos also stepped up and tallied 19 assists. 

Defensively, Chloe Munoz was all over the floor for the Lady Lions recording 24 digs. Hailey Nixon was right behind her with 21 digs herself. With her dominating presence at the net, Keara Savory-Calbo finished with a team-high 6 blocks. Addison Standley and Mackenzie Smith also joined the block party, each of them adding 4. 

Game Two

After the dominating win in their first match of the day, Nelson took the floor again taking on Our Lady of the Lake University. This match provided an absolutely exciting atmostphere as the match came down to a 15-13 fifth set victory for the Lady Lion's. 

Standley led the team with 21 kills. Nelson was able to steal some points from the service line, as Cavazos recorded 4 aces and Makenzi Petten added 3. Hargesheimer continued her spectacular offensive production with 29 assists this match. 

The Nelson defense was on point as Savory-Calbo led the way with 8 blocks, followed by Smith and Savannah Bergman each with 5. Nixon recorded a team high 17 digs, followed closely by Munoz with 16, and Abby Fisher with 12.

The Lady Lions are back in action this Friday, September 4 at 6:00 PM in the Sheaffer Center as they start their conference season against Mid-America Christian University.
