Waxahachie, TX - The Nelson Lions battled until the final whistle but ultimately fell short to the Concordia Tornadoes 2-1 on Tuesday night at the Lions Athletic Complex in Waxahachie.

The Tornadoes struck first in the 15th minute, scoring to take an early 1-0 lead over the Lions.

Throughout the first half and the majority of the second half, the Nelson defense stood tall, keeping Concordia from adding to its lead and keeping the game within reach. However, just before reaching the 80-minute mark, the Lions gave up another tough goal, putting them in a late 2-0 hole.

Despite being down by two goals late in the match, Nelson continued to fight and claw its way back. Senior
Maquan Aldridge gave the Lions new life in the 86th minute, converting a penalty kick to cut Concordia's lead to just one goal.

However, the comeback came too late, as Concordia's defense held firm over the final minutes to secure the 2-1 victory over the Lions.

While the result was not what Nelson wanted, there were plenty of positive takeaways for the Lions moving forward. Nelson recorded 11 shots throughout the match, with eight of those shots being on goal. The Lions also showed plenty of fight and resilience in the second half as they continued to push for an equalizer.
