Waxahachie, TX — The Nelson Men's soccer team set the tone Monday night at the Lions Athletic Complex, earning a commanding 7-0 victory over the Texas College Steers.
The Lions gained momentum early in the match, fueled by a standout performance from senior striker
Maquan Aldridge. Aldridge tallied two goals in the first half, with his first goal coming just 2 minutes and 19 seconds into the match.
In between Aldridge's two goals, senior winger
Joel Palmer added a goal of his own, with freshman
Caleb Cuellar providing the assist.
The Lions continued to control the match in the second half, leaving little opportunity for the Steers to mount a comeback. Nelson added four more goals after halftime, with
Thyeim Shaw,
Joel Palmer,
Landon Exley, and
Christopher Ramirez each finding the scoresheet. Cuellar added another assist on the night, while Attila Chagas also contributed an assist to help the Lions maintain their commanding lead.
Nelson remained in control on both ends of the pitch, completely shutting out the Steers while allowing just two shots, with only one on goal.
The Lions continued to apply offensive pressure, recording 10 shots in the first half and 12 in the second for a total of 22 shots in the match, including 13 on goal.
The impressive victory brings the Lions back to .500 on the season, improving their record to 3-3-1.
