Waxahachie, TX – The Lady Lions made an absolute statement Monday night, dominating Texas College in every aspect of the game to secure a 7-0 victory at the Lions Athletic Complex.
One of the biggest statistics that shows the Lady Lions' dominance was the shot comparison between the two teams. Nelson's defense did not allow Texas College to record a single shot attempt throughout the entire match, while the Lady Lions finished with 29 total shots. Nelson recorded 11 shots in the first half and 18 in the second, with 17 of those attempts landing on goal.
Several Lady Lions had breakout performances in the dominant victory, including freshman
Lizeth Moreno, who led the way offensively, recording a hat trick with three goals.
Junior
Leila Barco-Cruz was right behind her, just shy of the hat trick finding the back of the net twice. Sophomore
Daisy Ruiz assisted on one of Barco-Cruz's goals, while freshman
Gracie Hendley also played a role in the scoring with an assist on another.
The Stovall twins,
Anna Stovall and
Isabella Stovall, continued the offensive attack in the second half. Isabella recorded an assist earlier in the match before connecting with her sister in the 79th minute, setting up Anna for another Nelson goal.
Hendley capped off her own strong performance late in the match. After assisting on one of Barco-Cruz's goals earlier in the night, the freshman found the back of the net herself in the 86th minute to close out the scoring for the Lady Lions.
The victory moves the Lady Lions to an impressive 3-1 record at home and brings their overall record back to .500 at 4-4.
