Waxahachie, TX - The Nelson University Lady Lions opened Sooner Athletic Conference play in dominant fashion Friday night, sweeping Mid-America Christian University, 3-0, inside the Sheaffer Center.
To set the tone for the match, Nelson University honored the 2025 Lady Lions Volleyball Team with their rings for winning the 2025 SAC Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championship.
Following the ring ceremony, Nelson controlled the match from start to finish, taking the opening set 25-16 before holding off the Evangels 25-22 in the second set. The Lady Lions closed out the night with a convincing 25-18 victory in the third set to secure their first conference win of the season.
Caroline Boone led the offensive attack for Nelson with 11 kills, while Keara Savory-Calbo added 8 kills. The Nelson attack was fueled by a balanced setting effort with Ashlyn Cavazos and Cassidy Hargesheimer each recording 15 assists.
Savannah Bergman anchored the Lady Lions at the net with a team-high four blocks, while Addison Standley and Savory-Calbo each recorded three blocks. Chloe Munoz led the team with nine digs, while Taylor Felux, Hargesheimer and Boone each added six digs.
The Lady Lions also made an impact from the service line, recording seven aces . Hargesheimer led Nelson with three aces, while Taylor Felux added two.
With the victory, Nelson improves to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in SAC play.
