Waxahachie, TX - The Nelson University Lady Lions secured a thrilling victory Saturday night, defeating Jarvis Christian University 2-1 at the Lions Athletic Complex.
Nelson got off to a fast start, finding the back of the net less than six minutes into the match. Jaylene Bosquez scored her first goal of the season in the sixth minute off an assist from Daisy Ruiz to give the Lady Lions an early 1-0 advantage.
Jarvis Christian responded in the 31st minute to even the score at 1-1, where the match would remain through halftime.
The Lady Lions continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, creating several scoring opportunities while controlling possession. Nelson's persistence finally paid off in the 87th minute when Lizeth Moreno found the back of the net off an assist from Holly Snyder to give the Lady Lions the late 2-1 lead.
Nelson controlled the match statistically, outshooting Jarvis Christian 12-2 while placing six shots on goal. The Lady Lions also held a commanding 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Bosquez and Moreno each recorded a goal for Nelson, while Ruiz and Snyder each added an assist. Anna Stovall led the Lady Lions with four shots, while Bosquez added two.
Defensively, Nelson limited Jarvis Christian to just two total shots. Anna Brewer recorded a save in the second half to help preserve the Lady Lions' lead and secure the victory.
The Lady Lions notch their first win of the season and improve to 1-2 on the year.
Nelson will look to build on the momentum as the Lady Lions continue their 2026 campaign.
