Waxahachie, TX – The SAGU Volleyball team earned their 20
th win of the 2021 season on Friday night after a 4-set win over Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Lady Lions now hold a 20-7 overall record and a 13-4 Sooner Athletic Conference record.
SAGU saw a tough first set as each team stayed within three points or less of each other throughout the entire set, but it was the Aggies who finished with back-to-back points on a SAGU error and a Idalisia Agbaosi kill to take the 26-24 set win.
The Lady Lions didn't let the set one loss derail them though as they bounced back and gave a resilient effort in the second set. SAGU went on a 9-0 run to end the match with a 25-11 win and scored 12 of the last 13 points.
The Lady Lions ran with their momentum for the rest of the match as they took a 25-17 win in set three and a 25-18 win in set four to secure the match victory.
Three SAGU players ended the night with double digit kills.
Ava Myers led the high-powered offense with 16 kills, while
Alexis Mealer added 13 kills, and
Emma Tompkins added 10 kills. Tompkins also played strong on the defensive side giving the Lady Lions nine total blocks on the night.
Riley Burcham anchored SAGU with 42 assists, and
Tessa Glick, coming off of her Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, led the Lady Lions with 25 digs. Mealer also added 15 digs giving her a double-double on the night.
