SAGU Volleyball Splits Weekend Conference Games

Oklahoma City, OK – The SAGU Volleyball team defeated Southwestern Christian University on Friday night in three sets but fell to Oklahoma City University on Saturday afternoon in four sets. The Lions now stand tied for third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
 
Game 1:
The Lions defeated Southwestern Christian in three straight sets with scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-10. The Lions won each set by ten or more points in each of the three sets. The Lions finished the match with a .262 hitting percentage and 32 kills. As a team, SAGU had 53 digs and eight blocks.
 
Highlights:
  • Emma Tompkins led the team in kills with 12 on just 20 swings and finished with a .500 hitting percentage. She also added 6 digs, 1 solo block, 3 assist blocks.
  • Riley Burcham finished with 24 assists and 5 digs.
  • Faith Marroquinn led the Lions in digs with 10.
 
Game 2:
SAGU fell in four sets to Oklahoma City University with scores of 24-26, 25-23, 13-25, and 22-25. Each set was a battle, but the third set killed the SAGU momentum as the Stars dominated the set and took a 25-13 victory. Oklahoma City totaled 68 kills compared to the Lions 51 kills.
 
Highlights:
  • Ava Myers had 14 kills and finished the match with a .270 hitting percentage.
  • Abby Wells added 10 kills and hit .391.
  • Riley Burcham had a double double with 47 assists and 15 digs. She also added 3 assist blocks.
 
The Lions now sit at 15-6 on the year and 9-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

The Lions will face Wiley College in the Sheaffer Center on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in a non-conference matchup.
