Waxahachie, TX – The SAGU Women's Basketball team fell 89-71 to No. 9 ranked Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon in the Sheaffer Center. Wayland's Jenna Cooper finished the night with a career-high 37 points. SAGU now sits at 6-11 overall and 3-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Wayland would have a big first quarter as Cooper scored 15 points to put the Flying Queens up 28-11, and they continued their first half surge taking a 43-23 lead into halftime. SAGU would come out of the half hot though outscoring Wayland 22-19, and in the fourth quarter with three minutes left in the game, the Lady Lions would pull within nine after a 12-2 run. The Flying Queens proved to be too much for SAGU as they would finish the game on a 14-4 run taking the 89-71 victory.
Autumn Moore led the Lady Lions with 17 points going 7-12 from the field and 1-1 from three. Moore also added two rebounds and six assists.
Jaycie Brisco finished with 13 points going 4-9 from the field and 2-3 from three. She also added ten rebounds and five assists giving her a double-double on the afternoon.
Rylee Lavender followed with 10 points and five rebounds.
SAGU will continue their home stretch as they face the University of North Texas Dallas on Tuesday, January 18, at 6:00 PM in the Sheaffer Center.
