Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Darian Davis

Lions devour the Crusaders, Okoroh shines

October 11, 2022

Dallas, TX: The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions played NCCAA affiliate member Dallas Christian College (DCC) at Moneygram Soccer Park grassy grounds in Dallas, TX. Ivan Najar, a freshman at DCC, is the Crusaders' highest goalscorer and, entering the game, would be a key player in the SAGU Lion defensive game plan. Before the game started, the SAGU men's soccer team worked hard to warm up with their coaches, becoming extremely well-stretched and working up a sweat. During the match, the Lions' play would be loose and uninhibited.

Lions Review

  • At the start of the game, SAGU would establish the tone by not giving their opponent room in the middle of the field for scoring opportunities.

  • Rodrigo Daniel Barrera would rush after loose balls to ensure the DCC defense had trouble stopping his external drives.

  • Isaiah Castillo received release passes from Jonathan Hill as he assessed the field with superb elegance.

  • Ted Okoroh received a superb pass from Jonathan Hill, who then sent a shot that splashed the net after two bounces.

  • Isolating a defender, Jafet Ramirez attempted a shot that kissed the side post.

  • During the catch, SAGU would bring in touches and transform them into open-field movement.

  • SAGU men's soccer associate head coach Cesar Espana would instruct his defensive players to "Stay on the wall."

  • Ted Okoroh received a long ball from Ethan Stewart and accelerated to score another goal for the Lions squad.

  • Caden Hyndman's torso would be entirely horizontal to the grass field when he thwarted DCC shot attempts.

  • Guilherme Calvacante would score in the top left corner of the DCC goal on a solo attempt. SAGU Lion teammates and fans would cheer as they fully appreciated Calvacante's fantastic play.

  • In the end, the Lions would win 3-1

Oancea's Opinion

"It was an absolute team effort, and patience on the build-up paid off. We have been working on that for the last ten weeks & the consistency of the players buying in was great. We were focused from the start & we believed the entire game that we could close the gaps, and we did it." SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.
