Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Darian Davis

Rivals collide in a dramatic soccer match

October 15, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) Rams were guests of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions at Life High School Waxahachie's gorgeous, green grounds. The Rams earned their first conference win with a 4-1 victory over the University of Science and Arts. However, the Lions would be using an aggressive defensive approach to stop them from continuing on a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) winning streak.

Lions Review

  • The SAGU Lions' Ted Okoroh would place the ball to open the game, and the rivals would instantly begin trading blows.

  • TWU scored the opening goal of the game in a one-on-one encounter.

  • After the opposition's first score, Jafet Ramirez didn't pout; instead, he started attacking the Ram defenders right away.

  • Jonathan Lopez came close to scoring on a Jacop Sang ball for the Lions, but the TWU goalkeeper made a miraculous save.

  • The communication of Guilherme Calvacante would result in effective attacking sequences for the Lion's attack. Multiple Lion's shot-on-goal attempts would result from the aggressive and vocal play.

  • The Lions would be down 2-0 against the Rams at halftime.

  • Ted Okoroh completely went loose in the second half, launching a barrage of goal attempts.

  • TWU would ultimately maintain its two-point lead.

Oancea's Opinion

"The lads improved on what we have been working on all season throughout this game. There were several opportunities that we failed to capitalize on. We shall, however, continue Conference action with a cheerful disposition. Playing your favorite game against a rival foe is always thrilling. I am happy with how we played and feel privileged to serve as the coach of these remarkable young men." SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.
