Dallas, TX: At the green fields of Moneygram Soccer Park in Dallas, TX, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions took on NCCAA associate member Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU). Chelsey Monroy, the SWAU striker who leads the Knights in goals and has contributed to just under half of the SAU team's season total, will be the focus of the SAGU defense. The SAGU women's soccer coaching staff urged the Lady Lions to play aggressively and strategically during the pregame activities. Following exercises involving forward running, backward skipping, and cone footwork, Lady Lions were more alert to prowl.
Lions Review
-
The Lady Lions promptly sought to force the Knights to recede after the kickoff.
-
The early shot attempts by Sampa Chisanga and Alexis Roman kept the Knights' defense on high alert and tense.
-
The SWAU defense would have to alter its structure due to Rylee Thatcher's quickness.
-
Before her teammates came to her aid, Lydia Johnson would stall Knight forwards, attempting to isolate her for scoring chances.
-
A minor modification to Kaaliyah Joseph's foot placement would have prevented the ball from ringing off the goalpost. The home audience would leap in the excitement in anticipation of Joseph's shot.
-
Paula Moreno Gomez received a pass from Alexis Roman, who then fired it into the goal past the SWAU goalkeeper's outstretched hands.
-
Valeria Olivas Maldonado would deliver the ball to SAGU team captain Paula Moreno Gomez, who would headbutt it into the goalmouth.
-
As Sampa Chisanga used her head to score another goal for the SAGU offense, the Lady Lions would take head coach Paul Hason's admonition to "play smart and use their head."
-
Rylee Thatcher, a Lady Lions speedster, would evade Knight defenders and get into the heart of the goal-scoring area.
-
Following Thatcher's goal, the Lady Lions would be up four goals to none heading into the halftime break.
-
Katia Casanova would occupy space by the goal box in the second half of the game and locate a gap for an overhead kick for a fabulous SAGU goal.
-
The Lady Lions' aggressive play increased as Jordan Shelton entered the match.
-
In the game's last minute, Valeria Olivas Maldonado would show off the preparation she had put in over the week by converting a free kick.
-
Ultimately, the Lady Lions would triumph 6-0 thanks to their collective dominance.
Paul's Pondering
"Tonight we were able to cross the bridge and diversify our scoring opportunities," SAGU women's soccer head coach Paul Hason commented.
