Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Darian Davis

In heated SAC rival match, TWU outlasts SAGU

October 15, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: At the lush green fields of Life HS Waxahachie, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions hosted their cross-town rival, the Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) Rams. The Lady Lions would employ an aggressive attacking strategy to prevent the Rams from going on a winning run after the Lady Rams earned their first conference win away from home with a 1-0 triumph against Southwestern Christian University.

Lions Review

  • The Lady Lions rushed aggressively into the game right away.

  • Breanna Suhr of the Lady Lions nearly gave SAGU the first point of the contest when her initial shot on goal skidded to the top of the goalpost.

  • Rylee Thatcher sped into prime scoring position and fired a shot at the TWU goalie, who barely made the save.

  • SAGU squad captain Paula Moreno Gomez would headbutt a corner kick to the home crowd's joy.

  • Alexis Roman, a striker for SAGU, showed she was no pushover as she sprinted past defenders.

  • Alejandra Ruiz would fill in for the Lady Lions and demonstrate the abilities that Natalie Solorio, the SAGU assistant women's soccer coach, had trained her in over the weeks of practice.

  • At the halftime break, the Lady Lions would trail the Rams 1-0.

  • The Ram's defense controlled the first period of the second half, limiting SAGU's offensive to an absurdly low level and devotedly defending their one-point advantage.

  • Even though Janelle Pirano, Rylee Thatcher, and Sampa Chisanga all had their shots blocked, their incredible performance gave the SAGU attack optimism that it may tie the game.

  • Ultimately TWU would cling to its one-point advantage.

Paul's Pondering

"Our opponent adhered to their game plan. We did not fulfill our game plan." SAGU women's soccer head coach Paul Hason commented.
