Battle between Lions and Stars in Waxahachie

October 1, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions played the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars in their first Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) home game at Life High school Waxahachie. Oklahoma City University enters the match having landed two athletes on the 2021 All-Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Team, with sophomore midfielder Tommaso Belli earning first-team honors and senior forward Lucas de Freitas earning second-team honors. The Lions intended to combine strong team defense and elite passing to defeat the Stars SAC duo.

Lions Review

  • The Stars drove the Lions by dominating shots throughout the game.

  • Even though the Stars dominated shots on goal, SAGU goalkeeper Jose Ladoriel finished with eight saves.

  • For the Lions, Guilherme Calvacante had a fantastic performance. Calvacante constantly displayed his speed and footwork while aggressively playing with the ball.

  • Alejandro Flores and Juan Ambriz both demonstrated deft ball handling. The Lions duo would be able to get past the Stars' defense and attempt goal-scoring chances.

  • As he slid to save OCU goals, Ryan Sandron made the home fans happy. His effort was phenomenal.

Oancea's Opinion

"A few errors hinder the team's progress we will fix in practice. While we are disappointed with the outcome tonight, we will continue to carry ourselves with dignity and have faith that as long as we work hard, we will advance quickly. We must make every effort to advance and perform well since the next five weeks of conference play will pass very quickly. I love this team's fight and determination," SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.
