Waxahachie, TX: The Mid-America Christian University (MACU) Evangels were the opponent for the undefeated No. 9 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions volleyball team on Saturday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas.
The Lady Lions' defensive specialists were a pivotal element to the SAGU game plan, as their stout performances allowed the Lady Lions freedom to smash kills and score SAGU points.
The Lady Lions (24-0, 16-0) crushed MACU in three sets, 25-9, 25-19, and 25-23
Lion Review
-
Thanks to a MACU service mistake, SAGU would score the game's first points.
-
Alexandra Bonnet would leave the home crowd in awe with a stunning hard kill that soared and landed on the MACU side.
-
Emma Tompkins would give the Lady Lions an early 5-0 score advantage with a magnificent soaring swing.
-
Multiple opening set service aces by Lindi Boling would cause the Evangels to take a break and rethink their tactics.
-
When the ball touched middle hitter Emma Tompkins' fingertips and was about to be buried by an Evangel attack, Tessa Glick produced the best defensive play of the opening set by diving to keep it alive.
-
When Molly Echard entered the match, she immediately served two aces.
-
A MACU serve that was about to leave the bounds was avoided by Kya Bock, thanks to her quick thinking and ability to duck.
-
The rallies in the second set would be ferocious and fiercely contested. The Lady Lions' last three points were scored by Abby Wells, who made a considerable contribution. Wells' performance was a magnificent and gallant way to end the set.
-
Early in the third set, MACU would get out to a fast start, but SAGU would staunch the bleeding.
-
The Lady Lions would eventually finish unblemished.
More from Moore:
"Today was a great day for our program. We had great play from everyone. I'm so proud of the level that we are playing. All of us played very fast today. Kudos to MACU. Those kids stepped up and really competed today. They have a great coach who is building something very special. I'm very happy for them. They will make some noise in this last stretch of the season. Our next five matches will be very tough, but we will take them one at a time. 24-0 and 16-0 in SAC play is exciting, but we have a lot of work to do." SAGU Head Volleyball Coach Hank Moore said.
