SAGU falls to JBU on the road

October 27, 2022

Siloam Springs, AR: The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions played John Brown University (JBU) in their second-to-last Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) game of the 2022 season on Thursday night at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Recently, the JBU Golden Eagles beat Central Christian College 1-0, forcing a shutout with solid formations. Before the game, Juan Ambriz had scored in each of the Lions' previous SAC contests. So Ambriz would be aiming to continue his red-hot streak.

Lions Review

  • Both teams frequently committed fouls at the start of the game because they didn't want the other side to acquire an advantage.

  • Juan Ambriz stepped up the pressure and prepared a precise goal attempt that the Golden Eagles keeper barely saved.

  • Jacop Sang and Ryan Sandron would give the SAGU offense a one-two punch in the first half of the game.

  • JBU collected a loose ball to open the scoring when they curled outside and sunk a goal from 25 yards.

  • After the JBU score, Jonathan Hill made savvy moves to rally, but SAGU trailed by one point at the halftime break.

  • Guilherme Calvacante and Jafet Ramirez would launch rapid assault after swift assault to dislodge the JBU backline of defense, thanks to their excellent mobility and ball handling.

  • Javaughn Hines would exert much effort and strategic thought during the game.

  • Jose Ladoriel would finish the game with 11 saves, but the Lions fell to JBU despite the double-digit save total.

Oancea's Opinion

"We are disappointed with the result. Tonight we had a fantastic first half with great effort, commitment, and a lot of sacrifices from everyone on the squad, and the players showed so much grit. I'm convinced that we have grown a lot for such a young team, and we all have to stay positive and focused and continue to learn to become consistent through an entire game," SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.

The Next Step

Next, the SAGU Lions will face Central Christian College (Kan.) Saturday, October 29, at Life HS Waxahachie, the game will feature a celebration to honor SAGU soccer's seniors.
