SAGU takes on JBU in road test

Siloam Springs, AR: On Thursday evening at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions faced John Brown University (JBU) in their second to last Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest of the 2022 season. The JBU Golden Eagles recently defeated Central Christian College 8-0, tying their season-best in goals. The Lady Lions, who in their most recent game achieved their first SAC victory, entered the contest hoping to maintain their recent string of strong and vigilant defense.


Lions Review

  • The early JBU ball movement resulted in three straight corner kicks, aggravating the SAGU defense.

  • By saving a goal-bound attempt from JBU early on, standout goalkeeper Zoe Boldt reassured her teammates that she had their backs.

  • JBU successfully recovered a cross-field pass whose original shot was denied and scored. Then a header would result in a goal for the Golden Eagles.

  • Beatriz Rodrigues turned up the heat and prepared a precise goal effort that barely stopped.

  • In their most recent encounter, Sampa Chisanga, the Lady Lions' lone goal scorer, also attempted to break into the JBU goal area.

  • When Alejandra Ruiz entered the match as a substitute, she added elite energy; the Lady Lions were behind by two goals at the intermission.

  • With their superb movement and ball control, Rylee Thatcher and Kyra Smith would launch swift assault after quick attack to unsettle the JBU backline of defense.

  • Throughout the game, Janelle Pirano would also put in a lot of effort and strategic thinking.

  • JBU eventually prevailed in the statistical shootout and the overall game.


The Next Step

Next, the SAGU Lady Lions will face Central Christian College (Kan.) Saturday, October 29 at Life HS Waxahachie, the game will feature a celebration to honor SAGU soccer's seniors.
