Waxahachie, TX: In their second Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) home game, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions took on the Mid-America Christian University (MACU) Evangels at Waxahachie high school. The Mid-America Christian University Evangels, who are coming off their first SAC victory over Central Christian College, will be looking to start their first winning streak of the season. After nearly pulling off a miraculous upset over the Oklahoma City University Stars, one of the SAC's juggernauts, the Lady Lions will enter the contest attempting to build on their outstanding defensive display.

The Evangels would kick-off to begin the contest.

Sampa Chisanga's energetic ball handling and an early attempt from Jordan Shelton that bounced high off the top of the goalpost forced the MACU defense to respond.

The Lions' back third frequently foot Evangel's corner kicks, which Rylee Thatcher would then clear.

Zoe Boldt deflected a MACU free kick that was played short and struck the Lady Lion's goal post, while the second effort from MACU bounced off the crossbar.

Early on, the Evangels favored the match, but head coach Paul Hason and assistant coach Natalie Solorio urged their team to battle back and play offensively.

The Evangels moved to the middle of the field during the assault to create space for the shot attempt, but Zoe Boldt would deny them a crucial scoring opportunity.

With less than 20 minutes left in the first half of the game, F. Martella would score a solo goal from a great distance to give the Evangels the edge.

Shakira Williams connected with Sampa Chisanga in the Lady Lions formation, and the pair played a give-and-go for a shot that the Lady Lions narrowly missed to the right.

Paula Moreno Gomez, the captain of the SAGU squad, would steal the ball from C. Hargrove, the SAC women's soccer player of the week, with exquisite footwork.

When Beatriz Rodrigues' attempt at goal grazed the side of the net following a side pass, the home crowd rose to its feet.

Kyra Smith attempted to take advantage of a SAGU score effort to end the first half and keep the pressure on MACU.

Aggression and pressure were the main focuses of the second half as the Lady Lions attempted to retake the lead.

Patience Bartz made excellent defensive efforts to defend the Lady Lion's goal box.

Cassandra Cervantes and Alejandra Ruiz would enter the game intending to use headers and slide tackles to assist the Lady Lions in scoring for SAGU.

The Evangels would hold on for their first SAC road victory of the year.

"The game presents itself with opportunities with levels of difficulty. A lack of concentration even for a second will result in being punished In our competitive conference," SAGU women's soccer head coach Paul Hason commented.

The SAGU Lady Lions resume conference play on their home turf on Saturday, October 8th, when they welcome Southwestern Christian University to Waxahachie.
