Lady Lions conquer Central Christian College

October 7, 2022

McPherson, KS: The No. 9 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions volleyball team traveled to Kansas' Central Christian College's (CCC) Lady Tigers' home court at Jerry Alexander Arena for a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchup. The unblemished Lady Lions entered the contest to put pressure on the CCCK team and their fifth-year setter McKenzee Cook, who was recognized as an honorable mention at the 2021 SAC tournament.

The Lady Lions (19-0, 11-0) rolled CCC (6-16, 1-10) in three sets, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-22.

Lion Review

  • Active and prepared to contribute immediately, Karena Tipton smashed a kill from Riley Burcham.

  • Riley Burcham would go from offense to defense with a tandem block with Emma Tompkins.

  • In the match's opening set, Alexandra Bonnett excelled, collecting points on successive kills.

  • Lilly Hanna would pluck Tiger kill attempts to the in-lines, causing chaos at the net for the CCC offense.

  • To conclude the first set, Tessa Glick served a beautiful ace.

  • The second set of the game would get underway with consecutive kills from Alexandra Bonnett.

  • When Lindi Boling provided a no-look assist on a Riley Burcham kill, the home fans hissed in shock.

  • Abby Wells received a delightful pass from Molly Echard, who had come on for the Lady Lions, and Wells would punch it for a SAGU point.

  • The most closely contested set would be the third and final set.

  • The Lady Lions would ultimately prevail because of Madison Petten and Ava Myers' exceptionally skillful play.

More from Moore:

"Winning on the road is not easy. All respect to Central Christian! They played amazingly. As a team, they had 72 digs. We had enough really good play to get a win. This is a game that we can learn from and keep growing. Adversity is a good teacher. We have a good chance to grow from this match. One big number was Emma Tompkins had nine assist blocks. Alexandra Bonnett had a good match with 13 kills, three digs, and three assist blocks. Tessa had a good night with 19 digs. Riley also had another double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs. 19-0 and 11-0," SAGU Head Volleyball Coach Hank Moore said.
