Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Darian Davis

Laboriel and Hyndman alternately defend the goal against Eagles

October 8, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions played Southwestern Christian University (SCU) at Life HS Waxahachie in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) battle. The SCU midfielder Camren Ashby, who leads the Eagles in shots on goal, will be the focus of the SAGU defensive strategies. In order to neutralize their SAC opponent, SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea stressed squad discipline, the use of strong dosages of communication, and great concentration throughout the game's pregame briefings and warmups.

Lions Review

  • J. Anselmi of the Eagles would kick the match off.

  • In a game that was initially exceptionally closely contested, Jafet Ramirez's fantastic show of pace resulted in an excellent shot on goal.

  • Shots from SCU were deflected by SAGU goalies Jose Laboriel and Caden Hyndman interchangeably. The SAGU goalies' two different playing styles would make it challenging for the Eagles to score off their attempts.

  • Defenders in the middle regularly saw Ethan Stewart and Ted Okoroh dancing with flashy footwork throughout the contest.

  • Guilherme Calvacante would go through SCU defenders with significant strides. During the game, Calvacante appeared to be engaged in every play at every moment.

  • In a valiant attempt on behalf of the Lions, Jafet Ramirez and Isaiah Castillo would stop SCU corner kicks from entering the SAGU goal box.

  • Jacop Sang would be another key player for the Lions, exploiting spaces in the SCU defense with his lightning-quick feet.

  • SAGU would eventually drop the match to SCU 2-0.

Oancea's Opinion

"An unfortunate result after good build-up moments, and we will always keep our faith in challenging times, no matter the circumstances. I am proud of the boy's efforts and hard work playing short, with 10 minutes left in the first half. We will continue to grind, and we will continue to keep our positive perspective & never allow temporal trials or struggles to extinguish our hope or the joy of learning & growing every day. No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Nothing will break our will to keep on fighting the good fight. (Romans 8:37-39)," SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.
