Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Darian Davis

In the conference opener, the Lions prevail decisively; Brooks Haddock scored 29 points

November 17, 2022

Waxahachie, TX: The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played their opening Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest of the 2022–23 season against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies on Thursday night at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas. The goal of the Lions was to prevent the Aggie team from establishing any momentum by concentrating on Rayquan Elliott, the current SAC men's basketball player of the week and leading scorer for the winless Aggies, who averages 39 points per game.

Under the leadership of former NAIA All-American Brooks Haddock, the Lions beat OPSU 93-65.

Lion Review

  • Brooks Haddock started the game with a crisp pull-up jumper, demonstrating that his shooting form would be flawless from the get-go.

  • Cortland Blake slapped his layup on the glass after sprinting across the floor like a gazelle to grab an offensive rebound and convert on a putback.

  • Alerick Hall would find freshman JJ Boling in the deep corner in front of the OPSU bench for a three-pointer.

  • JJ Boling would shake the Sheaffer Center when he cut backdoor and crammed a head tap jam over the entire Aggie defense. The home crowd cheered and roared in utter astonishment at the athletic play.

  • With 15 points, Brooks Haddock led all scorers at the half, and the Lions led the Aggies 37-28.

  • Rayquan Elliott, an Aggie guard, was checked by Noah Boling and the Lions' defense expertly, as Elliott scored eight points on eight shots in the first half.

  • The Lions shot an astounding 75% from the field and 62.5% from beyond the arc in the second half. Brooks Haddocks increased his enormous point total and widened the Lions' lead with a flawless 5/5 percentage.

  • Dallas Smith scored 14 points in the second half of the game, including an off-balance three-point heave to beat the shot clock buzzer.

  • Daniel Felix gave the club a much-needed burst of enthusiasm and effort in his debut game wearing a Lions jersey. Felix's tenacity and dedication to accumulating defensive stops increased the Lions' lead.

  • Cortland Blake finished second on the Lions' depth chart with 15 points behind Brooks Haddock's' astounding 29 points.
