Chickasha, OK: On Thursday night at the Drover Fieldhouse in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the University of Science and Arts (USAO) Drovers. The first Oklahoma Ford Dealers Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) basketball game of the week matches a pair of men's squads with undefeated league marks.
After a fierce battle featuring a Teddy Bear toss theme and a Toy drive in support of the OU Children's Hospital, the Lions' SAC winning streak was snapped by the Drovers.
USAO protected their home court against SAGU with a score of 83-68.
Lion Review
-
The Lions' squad played an uncharacteristic first half, only cashing in two of their twelve three-point shot attempts. Brooks Haddock made the Lion's two three-pointers during the first half of the game.
-
Keenan Gooden provided his big frontcourt guys with several assists, and his first-half play included a thunderous slam on a lightning-quick baseline drive.
-
Cortland Blake and Haddocks combine for 21 points going into the halftime break. In the first half, Tyler Kinghorn hugged a game-high nine rebounds. SAGU would trail USAO 40-38.
-
In the second half, the SAGU team, which regularly makes 9.5 three-pointers per game, would continue to have trouble hitting the long ball.
-
The SAGU squad had a commanding lead in the early goings of the second half thanks to Tyler Kinghorn's dominant play in the post and Alerick Hall's electrifying ball pressure and basket drives.
-
USAO would counter by making a string of quick three-pointers to narrow the score deficit. In the end, the Drovers' last scoring run and a scoring drought by SAGU would give USAO the momentum they needed to win the game.
-
For the sixth match this year, Brooks Haddock led SAGU in scoring with 20 points. Haddock also added a block to his stat line.
-
Tyler Kinghorn finished with 13 points while grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds, giving him his first double-double of the season.
