Waxahachie, TX: On Thursday night at the Abe Lemons Arena, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars.
Lion Review
-
After the first half of play, Cortland Blake and Brooks Haddock were the SAGU team's leading scorers.
-
The first half of play by Noah Boling was well-rounded. Boling led the SAGU squad to force the OCU stars to shoot just 34% from the floor while scoring seven points, three rebounds, and three assists.
-
Despite the stars making twice as many free throws as the SAGU team, the Lions led OCU 37-34 at the intermission.
-
SAGU outperformed the Stars while losing the rebounding battle.
-
The theme for SAGU in the second half was foul trouble. Several Lions had accrued three or more fouls with more than 15 minutes left in the second half.
-
Despite a last-ditch effort to win the game, the SAGU squad was defeated by yet another night of poor shooting.
-
With 19 points and five rebounds, Brooks Haddock led SAGU in both categories.
-
Cortland Blake not only scored 17 points but also pulled down five rebounds.
-
Together, Philbert Weekes and Noah Boiling scored 16 points.
Deal's Declaration
"Tough shooting night, but we competed and played together today. Proud of the effort and look forward to getting better as we go forward," SAGU head men's basketball coach Delton Deal said.
