SAGU sweeps USAO in the Drover Fieldhouse

September 17th, 2022

Chickasha, OK: In their second away conference game at the Drover Fieldhouse, the Lady Lions volleyball team from Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) paid a visit to the University of Science and Arts (USAO).

The No. 10 SAGU Lady Lions would overwhelm the USAO Drovers in a one-sided matchup between the two Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) opponents by dominating every statistical category.

SAGU (14-0, 6-0) beat USAO (5-6, 1-5) in 3 sets, 25-10, 25-21 and 25-16.

Lion Review

  • Riley Burcham would toss off a nice pass for Alexandra Bonnett to pick up the Lady Lions' first point.

  • Emma Tompkins would receive Riley Burcham's assist early and connect with her for a spectacular kill.

  • The Lady Lions doubled the Drover's scoring output at one point in the opening set after a block by Riley Burcham, and Emma Tompkins made the score 20-10.

  • The Lady Lions had the opening set under control even after a USAO timeout.

  • After the break, the first set was finished by an Ava Myers kill and a Lindi Boling service ace.

  • The second set was considerably more contested. SAGU's most immense scoring advantage was four points.

  • In the second set of the match, Tessa Glick and Lilly Hanna would excel defensively for the Lady Lions.

  • A crisp service ace from Boling brought the third and final set to a finale.

More from Moore:

"Today was a good match. We all played at a faster pace, and when we do that, we are pretty good. Riley played a great match with 36 assists. We, as a team, hit .370. Ava led in kills with 13, and she hit .406 for the match. 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Our girls are playing well, and the chemistry is terrific. Praise the Lord for kids who understand their roles and play them with all their hearts as into the Lord," SAGU Head Volleyball Coach Hank Moore said.
